Welcome to our 'Hope for Christmas' Campaign!

Hope for Christmas_overview

These eight dogs have watched other dogs come and go. They’ve recovered from trauma, surgeries, and difficult beginnings. They’ve waited patiently for someone to notice them.
This Christmas, we’re telling their stories to help them find the families they’ve been waiting for.
Can you offer one of these dogs a forever home? Please help share their stories and enter the lottery to help raise money for their charity.
Please note: this round all 8 charities will equally share the charity fund. No need to vote.

1. Buster

Age: 10 years

Rescued from a stray dog pound in October 2023.

Charity: Friends of Akitas Trust (UK)

Friend Of Akitas Trust UK_small
Click to apply

Beautiful Buster has been waiting over a year for his forever home. He watched his kennel friends leave with their new families and still wonders when it will be his turn.
Despite being 10, he’s full of life and just as spritely as dogs half his age. He loves his walks and absolutely adores human companionship.

When he first arrived he was confused and upset, but he has since settled well into his routine. Buster needs understanding adopters who will give him time to decompress and settle at his own pace. Someone who is around for a good proportion of the day would be excellent for him.

He has shown no negativity toward other dogs, so he could potentially live with a calm female dog. As we have no history for him, we won’t place Buster in a home with children under 12.

We rehome all over the UK but adopters must be willing to travel to kennels in the Sheffield area to meet Buster.

2. Eldur

Age: 8 years

Lost his home due to dog reactivity and food guarding.

Eldur is a stunning woolly Alaskan Malamute who’s been in rescue for 15 months. When he arrived, his coat was in very poor condition and had to be shaved for his welfare, but it has now grown back beautifully.

He is typical of the breed: stubborn, strong and full of character! Eldur needs a breed-experienced, adult-only home with no other pets.

He loves long walks, outdoor adventures, and splashing in puddles. His new family must be committed to maintaining his coat and giving him the structure he thrives on.

3. Maximus

Age: 5 years

Picked up as a stray and brought in from the pound in June 2022.

Charity: Foal Farm Animal Rescue

Maximus is a large Mastiff who has been overlooked due to his size and breed traits. He can guard his space and food, so he needs experienced adopters willing to build trust gradually. Knowing his triggers helps with relationships and Max has bonded well with staff and volunteers.

Max is very intelligent and loves nothing more than fun training exercises. He loves to play with his toys and will greet us usually with one in his mouth and his whole body will wiggle with happiness. He is great in the car and enjoys trips away from the farm.

Max walks very well on the lead however he will require a capable handler, as he is a big lad, and he will react towards other dog’s should they come too close. Max also has hip dysplasia; Foal Farm will continue to support his treatment post-adoption.

The dog team will support adopters with Max’s training, which will be ongoing whilst he settles into a new home. We are looking for experienced dog owners who are willing to work with us. Max so deserves a second chance and will be a wonderful companion. An adult only home is essential due to Max’s guarding issues.

4. Travis

Age: 8 years

Came from Romania with two siblings; they were adopted, but Travis was overlooked due to his hip condition.

Charity: Saving and Rehoming Strays

Travis is a beautiful, mixed-breed boy (we think there’s a little German Shepherd in the mix). He has a rare congenital condition (he was born without hip sockets) but he is pain-free, active and happy. He zooms around the garden, plays and enjoys life to the fullest.

In the UK since 2018, he’s been waiting far too long for someone to see his true sparkle. He can be barky with new people at first, but warms up quickly outside the home and becomes deeply affectionate.

He needs a home with:

• A secure, spacious garden
• No cats
• No small children (older dog-savvy teens considered)
• Ideally a friendly male dog companion

He travels well, walks nicely on the lead, behaves at the groomers, and doesn’t need long walks if he has outdoor space and human companionship. Currently in foster care in Ayr, Scotland

5. Alfie

Age: 4 years

Long-term resident needing an understanding, structured home.

Charity: Second Chance Akita Rescue

Alfie isn’t the dog for everyone. He needs firm guidance and a structured routine.

He isn’t a lapdog, he isn’t a cuddler and he basically couldn’t care less if you’re there or not, just food and walks, that’s all he wants.

Until……

He feels safe with you and trusts you mean him no malice. Then he turns into this gooey pile of mush. Taz and Emily are his main carers at kennels and they have just been respectful of his space and taken time to reassure him and he absolutely adores them both. He has been waiting 2 years for his forever home.

6. Jimmy & Hector

Age: approx. 5 years

Rescued from a dungeon in Egypt where they lived for two years in darkness.

Charity: Miracle's Mission

Miracle's Mission_Small
Click to apply

Jimmy and Hector are big bouncy brothers who are based in Egypt but available for adoption in the UK.

They were kept in a dungeon for the first 2 years of life, a small brick cell with no light, little air and only each other for company. Both living in their own filth, they never got taken for a walk and were very scared of life outside the cell. When we saw videos of how they were being kept we had to get them out.

That was 2 years ago, they have been fully rehabilitated and are now both happy dogs. But sadly nobody has wanted to adopt them. They are 40kg each and being big playful boys they just keep getting overlooked. They are both good with other dogs and people. They are neutered and ready to travel.

You can apply for them on the Miracle's Mission website by clicking on the apply button.

7. Cash

Age: 3 years

Came from a council pound after serving his 7 days.

Charity: Animals in Need Northamptonshire

Round 12_DoggyLottery_Animals In Need Northamptonshire_Logo_Small-min
Click to apply

Cash is a handsome Lurcher who has been with the rescue for a long time and keeps getting overlooked.

He’s a loving boy who gets on well with people of all ages and, once he trusts other dogs, becomes great friends with them.

Cash had separation anxiety at first, but has made big progress and will continue improving in a stable home. He needs a secure garden as he’s a bit of an escape artist.
He must be walked wearing a muzzle due to his prey drive and cannot live with cats or small furries.

Cash knows some basic commands, making him an eager student for ongoing training. He’s an all-rounder who loves attention and will thrive in a home where he can be active, loved, and continue learning.

8. Issy

Age: Young adult (2-3 years)

Abandoned at a vet’s; arrived with extreme cherry eye and suspected entropion.

Charity: K9 Crusaders Dog Welfare

Issy arrived suffering from the worst case of Cherry Eye we've ever seen, and we suspected she was also suffering from Entropion eye. She desperately needed corrective surgery to save her sight and to live a life free of pain and discomfort. We knew the treatment would be expensive, but we couldn't leave her suffering. The health and well-being of the dogs entrusted to us is paramount in everything we do.

Our vet examined Issy and confirmed that she needed surgery for entropion in both eyes, as well as an operation to correct the severe Cherry Eye. She began an intensive course of strong antibiotic drops before our vet performed the surgeries. Gradually, Issy started to settle in. We swapped her plastic cone for a more comfortable fabric one, and her demeanor began to soften. She began to enjoy the perks of being in our isolation kennel—lots of attention, treats, cuddles, and little trips out.

Issy has been with us for just over 12 months now and is looking for her new home. Despite all the pain and discomfort she has endured, she remains the sweetest, friendliest (and sometimes cheekiest) dog!
